Bianca Kelly on her transition experience

BK“My transition experience made me realise there are so many opportunities out there, and I have so many valuable skills from Defence which are transferrable to the corporate world, it just takes some assistance to find where your strengths and weaknesses are and to truly understand what abilities you have.”

Bianca Kelly served in the RAAF for six years before separating voluntarily in February 2017.  She was referred to Soldier On by her rehabilitation consultant to look at connecting her with some education courses.

One of our Veteran and Family Support Officers from NSW worked with Bianca and identified that she would benefit from some work experience in a civilian workplace. This was to build some much-needed confidence, obtain some practice with interviewing and refine her ideas around future employment direction.

Bianca became the first participant to complete Career Academy, a work experience program run by Fujitsu Australia in partnership with Soldier On. Bianca spent six weeks working within Fujitsu’s marketing and communications team. During this time, she completed a project, gained on the job experience, and receieved coaching and mentoring from Fujitsu staff.

After completion of the Career Academy, Bianca secured a full-time opportunity in an administrative role at Breed Business Centre. She has also gone on to become a Peer Mentor with RSL Defence Care.

The loud applause that came from the audience that evening showed just how much Bianca’s confidence has grown since her transition from ADF. Her poise and professionalism was an inspiration to all and we at Soldier On are very proud of her!
